Pirates Make It Four Straight With Win Over Cerritos

The Pirate softball team made it four straight wins Friday, and six of the last seven on the positive side with a 7-5 non-conference victory over visiting Cerritos College at the VC Softball Complex. Brittany Perez was 3-3 with a single, double and triple and Farris Burke was 3-4, including a triple, to lead Ventura (11-13, 5-2).  Burke also picked up the win in the pitcher's circle.

VC fell behind 3-1 after two innings, but came up with four big runs in the bottomof the third.  The falcons tied the score in the top of the fourth inning, but VC answered with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Lindsey Deitz was 1-3 with a pair of runs batted in and Gabriella Ramos was 1-4 with an RBI. Mariah Gamboa also hit in a run while batting 1-3 in the game.  Ventura pounded out a total of 10 hits in the contest.

VC continues its long homestand, and a stretch of six games in four days on Saturday and Sunday, March 27 and 28, hosting the VC Spring Games.  The Pirates will open with Long Beach at 9:00 am Saturday, and play Cypress at 2:00 pm.  Sunday VC hosts Canyons at 8:30 am and Porterville at 5:00 pm.
