The Ventura College softball team took over sole possession of second place in the Western State Conference Gold Division with a solid 7-4 win over Cuesta Thursday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex.  The Pirates (10-13, 5-2) broke a second-place tie with the Cougars halfway through the conference schedule.

Ventura spotted the Cougars a run in the first and a run in the second before fighting back.  The Pirates scored one run in th e bottom of the second inning before jumping ahead with three scores in the third.  They followed that up with another run in the fourth and two in the fifth.  Cuesta crossed the plate twice in the sixth, but VC held on for the 7-4 victory.

Catcher Gabriella Ramos was 2-4 on the afternoon with an RBI and Mariah Gamboa batted 2-2 in the game.  Carly Camarillo was 1-3 with two RBI.  Alexis White picked up the win in the pitcher's circle.

Ventura will host Cerritos on Friday March 27 in a make-up game from February 28 before hosting the VC Spring Games on Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29.
