Pirates Sweep Away Brahmas in Twin Bill

The Ventura College softball team swept a double-header from Los Angeles Pierce College by identical 8-0 scores Tuesday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex.  VC (9-13, 4-2) won the first game in six innings while finishing off the Brahmas in five innings in the nightcap.  Alexis White gave up three hits in 11 shut-out innings in the pitcher's circle.

Ventura 8, LA PIerce 0 (6 innings) - Game 1
The Pirates scored three runs in the second and three runs in the third before walking off with a pair of scores in the sixth inning.  

Marina Coffin was 2-4 with an RBI and Brittany Perez was 2-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Farris Burke also had a pair of hits with two runs scored and Yamilex Ruiz was 1-3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI. Meanwhile Lindsey Deitz had a hit and scored twice.  White gave up two hits and striuck out seven on the mound.

Ventura 8, LA Pierce 0 (5 innings) - Game 2
VC took a 1-0 lead in the second, and followed that up with four scores in the third.  They scored once in the fourth before walking off with two runs in the fifth.

Mariah Gamboa led the offense batting 3-3, including a triple, with two RBI and two runs scored. Coffin was 2-2 with a run batted in and a run scored and Gabriella Ramos  also had two hits while scoring once and batting in one run. Burke and Ruiz each had one hit and scored two runs. White pitched a one-hitter to pick up the victory.

Ventura continues a 13-game homestand on Thursday March 26 with a 2:30 pm game against Cuesta College.  That will be the first of six games in four days for the Pirates, who host Cerritos on Friday and the annual VC Spring Games Saturday and Sunday.
