VC Softball Splits Pair at Moorpark

The Pirate softball team split a double-header Tuesday at Moorpark College.  Ventura won the first game 13-3 in five innings before falling in the nightcap 2-1.  Yamilex Ruiz led Ventura with four hits, including a double and a home run, with four RBI on the day. Meanwhile Alexis White was solid in the pitcher's circle scattering 12 hits and five runs over the two games.

The Pirates jumped on the Raiders with five runs in the first inning and three more in the second.  MC came back with three runs in the bottom of the third, but Ventura countered with three in the fourth and two more in the fifth.  

Gabriella Ramos was 3-3 on the day with a double and four RBI while Ruiz was 2-3 with a home run and three runs batted in. Marina Coffin batted 2-3 while knocking in one run and Farris Burke was 2-4 with a double.  White scattered five hits, giving up the three runs on the mound.

The second game of the double dip went the distance with the Raiders scoring in the bottom of the sixth to provide the margin.  Moorpark crossed the plate in the first inning and VC tied the score with a run in the top of the sixth. 

Ruiz led the Pirate offense with a pair of hits, including a double, with one RBI.  VC was limited to five hits in the game.  White allowed seven hits in taking the loss in the pitcher's circle.

After playing just one game at home in the past month, Ventura finally returns the the VC Softball Complex to take on Los Angeles Pierce in a double-header on Tuesday March 24.  The first game is set to begin at 1:00 pm.  It is the first of 13 straight home games for the Pirates.
