Pirate Comeback Falls Short

The Pirate softball team fell behind big, but mounted a furious comeback, falling a run short in their 9-8 loss to Los Angeles Mission College Thursday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex.  Claira Lozano hit a three-run double, and Mariah Gamboa had a pair of hits with two RBI and a run scored to lead Ventura (5-11).

After taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, Ventura gave up three runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to fall behind 9-1.  The Pirates came back with five in the bottom half of the fifth and scored two more in the bottom of the seventh to fall one run short in their comeback.

Yamilex Ruiz had a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI and Marina Coffin had a double with an RBI.  Lindsey Deitz scored twice and had one hit for the Pirates.

VC will open Western State Conference Gold Division play at Allan hancock College on Thursday March 5 at 2:30 pm.
