Softball Falls In Extra Innings On Walk-Off Homer

The Pirate softball team had a solid outing, but gave up one big hit Wednesday in their 2-1 extra-inning loss at San Bernardino Valley College. Alexis White pitched seven scoreless innings before giving up the game-winning home run in the bottom of the eighth.  Gabriella Ramos had a pair of hits for VC (5-10) and Claira Lozano had a sacrifice fly to score the Pirates' only run.

The teams remained scoreless through seven innings.  White scattered seven hits through regulation play in the pitcher's circle for Ventura.

In the eighth inning, a runner was placed on second base to begin each half of the frame.  For the Pirates, Marina Coffin began the extra inning in scoring position.  Carly Camarillo sacrificed her to third, and Lozano hit a sacrifice fly to score score the run, giving VC a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, the Wolverines also started with a runner on second base, and the lead-off home run ended the game.

VC hosts Los Angeles Mission on Thursday Feb. 26 at 2:30 pm before hosting Cerritos for a double-header on Saturday Feb. 28.
