Softball Wins Three of Four at Tournament

The Ventura College softball team followed up Saturday's 1-1 performance on the first day of the Mt. San Jacinto College President's Day Weekend Tournament with a pair of big wins Sunday.  VC defeated Chaffey 16-3 in five innings in the first game before defeating Rio Hondo 10-1 in the tournament finale.  Brittany Perez had a monster day, batting 5-6 with three home runs and eight RBI while Mariah Gamboa was 6-7 on the day with three RBI.

Ventura 16, Chaffey 3 (5 innings)
Alexis White pitched for VC, giving up three hits while striking out five to pick up the win.  Gamboa was 4-4 with a double and a triple and two RBI.  Perez was 2-3 with a double and a home run, knocking in three.  Meanwhile Claira Lozano batted 3-4, including a double and a triple with four RBI and Carly Camarillo went 2-2 with a triple and an RBI.  Marina Coffin also contributed three hits and two RBI.  The Pirates knocked out 17 hits in the game.

Ventura 10, Rio Hondo 1 (5 innings)
Perez led the way with three hits, two home runs and five RBI while Gamboa was 2-3 with a run batted in.  Coffin was 3-3 with a pair of doubles and batted in two.  Farris Burke gave up four hits in the pitcher's circle while striking out six to earn the victory.

The Pirates will return to the VC Softball Complex on Thursday Feb. 19 against Los Angeles Valley College.  First pitch against the Monarchs is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
