Softball Splits First Day of MSJC Tournament

The Pirate softball team split the first day of games at the Mt. San Jacinto College President's Day Weekend Tournament in Menifee Saturday.  VC (2-8) defeated San Diego City College 6-5 in the first game of the day before falling to Napa Valley 11-1 in the nightcap.  Gabriella Ramos had a solid day with three hits, including a triple, two RBI and a run scored in the two games.

Ventura 6, San Diego City 5
The Pirates raced out to a 4-1 lead midway through the game before withstanding a three-run rally by the Knights in the top of the seventh inning.  Farris Burke was the winning pitcher, scattering nine hits while giving up five runs, three earned.

Brittany Perez was 2-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored while Ramos also went 2-3 with a triple, two RBI and one run scored.  Lindsey Deitz had a double while Maria Coffin had a single and a run scored.  Burke also had a hit in the game and Mariah Gamboa and Claira Lozano each scored runs. 

Ventura 1, Napa Valley 11
The game was tied a 1-1 after two innings befor ethe Storm erupted to claim the contest in five innings.  Alexis White and Burke shared duties in the pitcher's circle.  White scored the Pirate's lone run and Gamboa, Ramos, Deitz and Carly Camarillo each had one hit.

The Pirates will close play in the tournament on Sunday Feb. 15 before hosting Los Angeles Valley College on Thursday Feb. 19 at 2:30 pm.
