The VC softball team dropped the second game of a two-game road trip, 8-2 at San Diego Mesa College Saturday afternoon. Farris Burke was 1-3 at the plate with an RBI, and also pitched the game for Ventura (1-7).
Mesa took a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning and another in the second. VC countered, plating two runs in the third before the Olympians scored once in the bottom half of the frame. Mesa added another run in the fourth and two in the sixth to set the final 8-2 margin.
The pirates will try to rebound at Santiago Canyon on Tuesday Feb. 10 and at the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 14 and 15.
