Ventura Softball Drops Home Opener to Bakersfield

VC freshman Yamilex Ruiz had two hits and an RBI in the Pirates' home-opening loss to Bakersfield Tuesday.

The Ventura College softball team played their 2015 home opener Tuesday afternoon, dropping an 8-2 decision to visiting Bakersfield at the VC Softball Complex.  Yamilex Ruiz led VC (1-4) with a pair of hits, including a double and an RBI. 

The Renegades scored two runs in the first, third and fifth innings to take control of the contest.  The Pirates crossed the plate twice in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Farris Burke pitched the first three innings for VC and Alexis White came on in relief.  

Lindsey Deitz was 1-4 at the plate with an RBI.

Ventura will play at San Diego City College on Friday Feb. 6 and at San Diego Mesa on Saturday Feb. 7.  Their next home contest is Thursday Feb. 19 against Los Angeles valley College.
