Pirates Split Two to Close Glendale Tournament

The Pirate softball team split a pair of games on Saturday to conclude the two-day Glendale Tournament.  VC defeated San Diego Mesa 9-4 in the day's opener before falling to the host Vaqueros 3-1 in the nightcap. Alexis White pitched the win for the Pirates and Lindsey Deitz had three RBI for VC (1-3).

The Pirates earned their first win of the season behind a seven-run fifth inning.  Lindsey Deitz led the way, batting 2-3 with a triple and three RBI while Claira Lozano also had a pair of hits and two RBI. Farris Burke had a triple with two RBI in the game for the Pirates.  Alexis White scattered six hits over five innings, giving up four runs, one earned.

Ventura 1, Glendale 3
The Pirates closed the tournament with a close loss to the host Vaqueros.  VC was unable to record a hit in the five-inning contest, and Carly Camarillo walked and scored an unearned run in the fourth. Burke pitched for Ventura, giving up three runs, two earned.

The Pirates will open their home schedule against Bakersfield on Tuesday Feb. 3 at 2:30 pm.  It will be their only home appearance until Feb. 19.
