SOFTBALL: Ventura College resumed Western State Conference Gold Division play in softball, easily sweeping a double-header in Oxnard, 15-0 and 9-2. Alex Thorp pitched both wins for the Pirates, allowing two runs and eight hits over 12 innings while striking out 10. She also had four hits and five RBI at the plate while scoring three runs. Ashley Cerda had three hits, three runs scored, and four RBI on the day and Veronica Garcia also had three hits with three RBI and three runs for VC (17-15-1, 8-4).
Ventura 15, Oxnard 0
Alex Thorp threw a three-hit shutout for VC with five strikeouts and was 3-4 at the plate with four RBI and a pair of runs scored. Ashley Cerda was 2-3 with a grand slam home run, scoring twice in the game while Veronica Garca had a pair of hits, an RBI, and two runs scored. Sabrina Cerda also had a hit with three RBI and a run scored.
Ventura 9, Oxnard 2
Alex Thorp led the way once again, giving up five hits and a pair of runs on the mound while producing a hit with a run scored and an RBI offensively. Roxanne Lopez was 1-4 with a two-run homerun and Veronica Garcia batted 1-3 with a run and three RBI. Ashley Cerda was 1-1 with a pair of walks and a run scored.
Ventura travels to Moorpark on Thursday April 10 for a 2:30 pm game before heading to Mt. San Antonio on Friday, April 11 for a double header in a make-up of their Feb. 28 rain-out.
