SOFTBALL:  Two days after marching into the top spot in the conference alone, the VC softball came back to the pack a bit Thursday with a 3-1 home loss to Allan Hancock College. Ventura (13-9-1, 6-2) fell half a game behind the Bulldogs and Cuesta and one game ahead of Santa Barbara through one round of conference play. Ventura was limited to four hits, a single by Ashley Thorp and a double by Alex Thorp in the final inning, and singles by Ashley Cerda and Emily Heath also recorded singles in the game.

Hancock scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning, and the Pirates attempted to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Ashley Thorp began the inning with a single and advanced to third on Alex Thorp's double. Ashley Cerda reached base on an error by the pitcher which scored Ashley from third for VC's only run.

The Pirates will host the VC Spring Games this weekend, March 29 and 30, all day at the VC Softball Complex. The Pirates begin play at 8:30 am on Saturday against Porterville and will play Cerritos at 5:00 pm. On Sunday the Pirates take on Antelope Valley at 9:00 am and host Cypress at 1:30 pm.
