VC Bounces Back With Sweep

SOFTBALL:  The Pirate softball team bounced back from its first conference loss in a big way with a pair of double-digit wins in a sweep of Los Angeles Pierce on Tuesday, 24-0 and 18-0. Roxanne Lopez had six hits in the two games, including two home runs and two doubles, with six RBI while scoring seven runs. Ashley Thorp was 5-7 with seven RBI and five runs scored while Emily Heath scored five runs with five hits, including a pair of round-trippers, and four RBI on the day for Ventura (13-8-1, 6-1). Alex Thorp and Olivia Hernandez each tossed one-hit shutouts in the five-inning games.

Ventura 24, Los Angeles Pierce 0
Ashley Thorp led the run parade with a six-RBI game, as she singled, tripled, and homered in five at bats. Heath had a pair of home runs, scored three runs, and had three hits with two RBI and Ashley Cerda was 4-4 with a double, four runs scored, and three RBI. Lopez had a pair of doubles in her three hits with four runs scored and three RBI and Alyssa Mendoza also was 3-4 with four runs scored and a pair of runs batted in. Alex Thorp hit a home run at the plate, and struck out eight Brahmas from the mound, allowing one hit in five innings work for the win.

Ventura 18, Los Angeles Pierce 0
Lopez had two of the Pirates' five home runs, scoring three runs with three RBI. Mendoza also hit a round-tripper while scoring three times and Sabrina Cerda was 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on a home run. Olivia Hernandez was 2-3 at the plate, including a home run, with two runs scored and four RBI. She also allowed one hit wit hsix strikeouts over five innings for Ventura.

The Pirates have moved back into first place in the Western State Conference Gold Division and close the first round of conference competition by hosting Allan Hancock College on Thursday March 27 at 2:30 pm at the VC Softball Complex. They will host the VC Spring Games this weekend, March 29 and 30, all day at the complex.
