Softball Goes 1-1 in San Diego

SOFTBALL:  The Pirate softball team split a pair of games Saturday in San Diego, defeating San Diego City College 10-1 in six innings before falling to Long Beach City College 11-3 in the second contest. Julia Garcia carried a hot bat once again with five hits, including a double, with four RBI while scoring three times on the day. Roxanne Lopez totaled three hits and two walks while scoring four times for the Pirates (8-7-1, 1-0).

Ventura 10, San Diego City 1; 3-8-14
Olivia Hernandez pitched the victory against the Knights, without allowing an earned run. SHe gave up six hits while striking out two in going the distance. Julie Garcia was 2-4 with three RBI while scoring two runs. Lopez was 3-3 with a pair of doubles and she scored three times. Ashley Thorp had a pair of hits, including a double, with an RBI and Emily Heath produced a two-RBI hit.

Ventura 3, Long Beach City College 11; 3-8-14
VC gave up six runs to the Vikings in the first inning, and were forced to play catch-up throughout the game. Julie Garcia had three hits, including a double, with an RBI and a run scored. Heath was 1-2 with a run scored and Lopez walked twice and scored once. Sabrina Cerda collected an RBI in the game.

Ventura resumes Western State Conference Gold Division play on Thursday Mar. 13 against Oxnard. Play against the Condors is set to begin at 2:30 pm at the VC Softball Complex.
