Pirates Continue Improvement in Home Finale

The VC men's water polo team continued to show progress Wednesday afternoon in their home finale against Santa Monica at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Alexis Nava continued his solid play with a six-goal performance while Sebastian Cornejo scored a goal with two assists and two steals. Joe Lowry recorded a pair of goals with two helpers in the 16-10 setback to the Corsairs.

After a slow start in the first quarter, VC came alive in the second with scores by Nava and Lowry late to close to within 10-5 at intermission.

SMC netted the first score of the third stanza before Cornejo and Nava found the inside of the cage to reduce the VC deficit to 11-7 with 5:23 remaining in the period.

In the final quarter, Nava sandwiched a pair of goals around a score by Matthew Ogonowski to set the final 16-10 margin.

Carlos Gonzalez and Rafael Rodriguez each recorded an assist and a steal in the game while Ramon Rodriguez also handed out a pass that led to a Ventura goal.

The Pirates complete Western State Conference regular season play on Wednesday Oct. 26 at Los Angeles Valley.
