Men's Polo Travels to Cuesta Tournament

The VC men's water polo team competed at the Cuesta 2 Tournament Saturday in San Luis Obispo. Sophomore Alexis Nava led the effort with eight goals and three steals in the Pirates' games against Las Positas and Ohlone colleges. George Bonilla recorded three goals and three steals on the day.

Ventura 7, Las Positas 17

The Pirates trailed the Hawks 14-2 in the first and third quarters, combined in the setback.

Nava led the way with four goals, two steals, a field block and two drawn ejections. Bonilla, meanwhile, scored twice with an assist and a steal. Joe Lowry also found the inside of the cage for VC. Rafael Rodriguez handed out two assists and Sebastian Ayala turned back six Las Positas shots in goal.

Ventura 7, Ohlone 12

After trailing 4-3 at the end of the first quarter, the Pirates came back to tie the game at 5-5 by halftime. VC trailed 8-7 after three periods before the Renegades pulled away in the final eight minutes.

Nava netted four more goals to lead the offense while Bonilla also scored a goal and grabbed two steals. Matthew Ogonowski also scored with an assist and a theft while Carlos Gonzalez found the inside of the cage one time. Ayala recorded 10 saves in goal for the Pirates.

VC continues Western State Conference play on Wednesday Oct. 19 with their final home appearance of the season, hosting Santa Monica at 3:00 pm.
