The Ventura College men's water polo team dropped a 14-10 decision at Santa Monica Wednesday in the opening round of the Western State Conference Tournament. Tanner Islander and Jake Peters each scores three goals while Trevor Campbell netted a pair of scores in the season finale for the Pirates. Zander Galvin and Frank Lopez also scored for Ventura.

VC trailed 5-3 early in the second quarter before three goals from Islander and another score from Campbell gave the Pirates a 7-5 advantage at the break. The Corsairs came back in the third quarter, however, outscoring Ventura 9-3 in the second half to advance and end the Pirates' season.

With just one sophomore on the roster, Islander, the Pirates will look to rebound in 2018 from a difficult season. With first year head coach Jorge Perez given a full off-season for recruiting, look for the Pirates to return to top form in 2019.
