The VC men's water polo team continued their upswing with a solid 13-7 victory over the VC Alumni Saturday morning at the Ventura Aquatic Center. In a game that the alumni traditionally prove to be a troublesome opponent, the Pirates opened up an early 4-1 lead en route to the relatively easy victory. Austin Brunk scored three goals while Zander Galvin and Jake Peters each netted two scores for Ventura (2-7).

Galvin opened the game with a score on the opening possession, and followed with another goal a minute later. Tanner Islander and Peters answered an alumni score and the Pirates led 4-2 at the end of one quarter of play.

The "Past Pirates" closed to within 4-3 at the 7:47 mark before Frank Lopez and Peters each found the inside of the cage to stretch the advantage back to 6-3. Brunk and Peters then scored midway through the period to set the 8-3 margin at intermission.

Brunk broke the second-half ice midway through the third stanza with another goal, and Parker Harris also netted a score to put VC ahead 10-3 at the quarter break.

Things opened up in the final period with the game in hand with Brunk and Trevor Campbell scoring to make the count 12-3. The alumni scored three unanswered before Joesph MacDonald's goal helped set the final 13-7 margin.

Evan Hanely recorded six saves in the cage for the Pirates, who next hit the pool on Saturday Oct. 6 against West Valley College. The game is slated for 4:00 pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
