The Pirates' men's water polo team traveled to Glendora Wednesday afternoon, falling to Citrus College 17-7 in Western State Conference play. Jarett Baldwin and Ryan Reardon each had two goals to lead VC in the match while Glenn Ishida, Tanner Islander and Brandon Bouse all had single scores.
The Pirates (6-11, 0-2) were down 3-0 early before coming back to with 4-2 at the end of the first period. VC closed to within 5-4 with 3:30 remaining before halftime, but the Owls put up three scores to close out the half with a 8-4 advantage.
Roger Escalante had a pair of assists and two steals for Ventura and Cole Morter had an assist and two drawn exclusions. Goalies Derek Gamberutti and Dalton Esrofani each recorded six saves in goal.
VC returns to the pool on Wednesday Oct. 11 in their final home appearance of the season. The Pirates host Santa Monica at the Ventura Aquatic Center for a 2:15 pm match.
