VC Men Win One, Lose One at Saddleback Tournament

The VC men's water polo team won a game and lost a game Saturday at the Saddleback Tournament in Mission Viejo. The Pirates (6-10) broke a five-game skid with a 15-8 victory over Modesto in the opener before falling 13-8 to the host Gauchos in the nightcap. Ryan Reardon had five goals and five assists on the day while Justin Bouse netted four scores with three steals for Ventura.

Ventura 15, Modesto 8
VC used a 5-0 third quarter to pull away from the Pirates from the Central Valley. Nine different Ventura players found the net with Cole Morter leading the way with three goals with an assist and one drawn exclusion. Glenn Ishida scored twice with a paif of assists and Tyler Islander also netted two goals with an assist, one exclusion and one theft. Bouse scored two times with an assist and a steal and the deuces were wild for Reardon with two goals, two assists and two steals. Kyle Goodrich had a goal with an assist, two exclusions and six steals defensively and brandon Bouse also recorded a goal with an assist and four thefts. Nico Chamberlin and Jarrett Baldwin also scored for VC. Derek Gamberutti and Dalton Esrofani each recorded five saves in goal.

Ventura 8, Saddleback 13
Saddleback used a four-goal fourth period to pull away from Ventura. VC trailed 4-2 at the end of the first period and 6-4 at halftime. The Pirates kept things close, trailing 9-7 at the end of three periods before falling off. Reardon led the way with three goals and three assists and Justin Bouse scored twice with two steals. Morter recorded a goal with two thefts while Islander and Baldwin also netted scores. 

VC continues Western State Cofnerence play on Wednesday Oct. 4 at Citrus College.
