Pirates Drop Two Matches Saturday in Split Double-Header

The VC men's water polo team dropped a pair of matches Saturday in a split double-header. In the morning they fell 11-10 to the VC Alumni at the Ventura Aquatic Center before traveling to the East County in the afternoon where they dropped a match at Cal Lutheran University, 19-9. Ryan Reardon had five goals, an assist and two steals on the day while Justin Bouse, Glenn Ishida and Brandon Bouse all netted three scores in the two contests.

Ventura 10, VC Alumni 11
The current Pirates jumped out to a 3-1 lead at the end of one quarter of play, and led 5-4 at halftime.  Experience won out in the second half, however, as the alumni outscored VC 3-1 in the third period and hung on for the 11-10 victory. 

Justin Bouse had three goals with an assist and a steal while Brandon Bouse had two scores and one helper. Leonardo Lopez recorded one goals with an assist and four steals and Reardon, Ishida, Tanner Islander and Nico Chamberlin all scored one goal each.  Reardon and Chamberlin each had two steals. Frank Lopez turned back nine shots in the cage.

The Pirates scored first, but the Kingsmen responded and led 5-3 at the quarter break.  Cal Lu extended the lead to 10-4 by halftime en route to the 19-9 final score.

Reardon had four goals to lead VC while Ishida had two scores, an assist, one steal and two drawn exclusions. Chamberlin, Islander and Brandon Bouse all scored once and Kyle Goodrich handed out a pair of assists. Derek Gamberutti had six saves in goal.

Ventura (5-8) will open up Western State Conference play at home on Wednesday Sept. 27 against Cuesta College. The match begins at 2:15 pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
