Men's Water Polo Makes It Six Straight WIns

The Pirates' men's water polo team continued their hot streak with a pair of wins Friday at the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament with games played at Citrus College.  VC defeated Rio Hondo 13-9 in the first game before posting a 17-11 victory over Chaffey in the second.  CJ Daland led the way with nine goals on the day with three assists and three steals and Luis Galvez recorded 12 saves and nine steals.

Ventura 13, Rio Hondo 9
Ventura scored the game's first seven goals and held a 9-1 lead at halftime.  The Roadrunners made it close in the second half but the outcome was never in jeopardy.  Kyle Goodrich netted four goals with a pair of assists and a drawn ejection to lead the way.  Daland found the net three times with an assist, one drawn ejection and two steals. Isaac Alvary had two goals while Coby Wiegman and Chandler Cole also recorded scores.

Ventura 17, Chaffey 11
The Pirates defeated the Panthers for the second time in seven days with the 17-11 win.  Daland was superb offensively with six scores and two assists.  Clint Howard had four goals, three drawn ejections and two steals and Roger Escalante scored three times with a pair of assists. Wiegman also netted a pair of goals and Galvez turned back 10 Chaffey shots in goal with six steals.

The Pirates continue play at the Mt. SAC Tournament on Saturday Sept. 17 with a pair of games. They will play in Thousand Oaks in the Cal Lutheran Mini on Friday Sept. 23 before making their home debut on Saturday Sept. 24 against the VC Alumni at 9:30 am and a Cal State Northridge club team at 12:15 at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
