Playing against juniors and seniors in their home opener, the Pirates' men's water polo team gave a good fight, but lost to NCAA Division III Cal Lutheran 15-4 Wednesday in Thousand Oaks. Nathan Sardoni, Coby Wiegman, Trevor Edwards and Tyler Bleiberg all scored goals for the Pirates (2-3).
Ventura trailed 3-0 at the end of one quarter and 6-0 at intermission. The Pirates were outscored 4-3 in the third period before the Kingsmen pulled away late.
VC goalie Dalton Escrofani had eight saves in the cage.
The Pirates travel to the Mt. San Antonio Tournament in Walnut on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19 before hosting Rio Hondo College at the Ventura Aquatic Center on Saturday Sept. 26 at 10:30 am.
