Men's Water Polo Splits Season Openers at Citrus Tournament

VC sophomore Daniel Amorim had four goals and seven steals in the Pirates' season-opening victory over Grossmont Friday at the Citrus Tournament.

The Pirates' men's water polo team split a pair of contests to open the 2015 season under first-year head coach Mike Giles.  VC defeated Grossmont 15-10 in the opener Friday morning before falling to Fullerton 15-7 in the afternoon.  Nathan Sardoni scored eight goals in the two matches for Ventura (1-1).

The Pirates led wire to wire, opening with a victory for first-year head coach Mike Giles.  Sardoni had five scores while Daniel Amorim had four goals with seven steals.  Rogelio Coronado found the net four times as well, and Alejandro Astudillo netted a pair of goals.  J'son Ruiz had three saves in goal for the Pirates.  

Ventura 7, Fullerton 15
VC was tied with Fullerton 6-6 at halftime before the Hornets pulled away.  Coby Wiegman scored four goals while Sardoni netted three.  Ruiz pulled in three saves in goal and Dalton Escrofani turned back two shots in the cage.

The Pirates will continue play at the Citrus Tournament opn Saturday Sept. 12 in Glendora.  They are scheduled to travel to Cal Lutheran on Wednesday Sept. 16.
