The VC men's water polo team finished off a tough weekend at the Cuesta Tournament in San Luis Obispo with a pair of losses on Saturday.  The Pirates dropped a close decision to Riverside 13-11 before falling to Western State Conference foe Los Angeles Valley 19-3 in the tournament finale. Daniel Amorim scored five goals in the two matches to lead the Pirates (1-6).

VC jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the end of one quarter before the Tigers fought back to tie the score at intermission.  RCC had a strong third quarter with seven goals, taking a commanding lead.  The Pirates fought back in the final period, but were unable to complete the comeback.  Amorim had five goals while Dominic Tassano and Alejandro Astudillo each added three scores.  J'son Ruiz had nine saves in goal.

Ventura stayed close in the first quarter, trailing 4-1 and the end of eight minutes, but the Monarchs exploded in the second to take an 11-3 halftime advantage.  Althought VC had opportunities to get back into the match in the second half, they could not convert, and LA Valley poured in eight more scores to set the final score.  Trevor Edwards had a pair of scores for the Pirates and Mitchell Ongstad scored the other VC goal. 

Ventura will next host a team of Pirate alumni on Saturday Sept. 27 at 10:00 am at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
