MEN'S WATER POLO:  The Ventura College men's water polo team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Golden West College Tournament in Huntington Beach Friday. The Pirates saw their six-match win streak come to an end at the hands of Cerritos College, 12-8 in the opener before getting back on the winning track against Palomar College, 18-10 in the nightcap. Joe Yamamoto scored eight times in the two matches and Tim Allen had seven goals. Sean McGee registered 31 saves for Ventura (11-10, 2-1).

Ventura 8, Cerritos 12
The Pirates came out flat in their first match of the day, falling 12-8 to the falcons. Rogelio Coronado had three goals to lead VC while Yamamoto and Allen each scored twice. Tyler Remnant also scored a goal while Sean McGee had 12 saves in the cage.

Ventura 18, Palomar 10
VC turned a tie game at halftime into a blowout with a sharp second half. Yamamoto and Allen scored six and five goals, respectively, while Coronado netted three scores. Hunter Shevitt had two goals and Nick Miranda, Alec Kruse, and Rodrigo Siracusa also scored for Ventura. McGee was golden in goal with 19 saves.

The Pirates will play two more matches in Huntington beach on Saturday Oct. 26 before resuming Western State Conference play on Wednesday Oct. 30 at Los Angeles Valley. They return home for two matches on Friday Nov. 1.
