MEN'S WATER POLO: The VC men's water polo team had mixed results Friday, splitting a pair of matches on the first day of the Riverside Tournament. Ventura (4-7, 0-1) defeated Cerritos 8-7 in overtime to begin the day before losing a physical match to Orange Coast 14-8 in the nightcap. Tim Allen and Joe Yamamoto each scored four goals on the day and Rodrigo Siracusa scored three times. Sean McGee had 21 saves.

Allen led the way with three scores while Yamamoto and Siracusa each recorded two goals. Tyler Remnant also found the back of the net and McGee had 15 big saves in the overtime thriller.

The nightcap was a close match midway through the third quarter when VC scored to pull to within 9-8. An altercation following the goal resulted in the ejection of two players from each team, and the Orange Coast Pirates captured the momentum from that point. VC also lost another pair of players due to exclusion fouls and could not recover late.

Rodrigo Coronado and Yamamoto each scored two goals for the VC Pirates while Allen, Siracusa, Remnant and Michael Nott all found the back of the net once each. McGee turned back six shots by the Pirates of the South.

Ventura concludes play at the Riverside Tournament Saturday Oct. 12 with matches against Long Beach and host Riverside.
