MEN'S WATER POLO:  It took extra time, but the old guys rule. The Pirate water polo team lost a 14-13 overtime match to a team of VC alumni Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center in the program's annual alumni game. Tim Allen led a balanced attack by the current Pirates with four goals while Joe Yamamoto, Rogelio Coronado and Rodrigo Siracusa all netted three goals each. Goalie Sean McGee registered 13 saves on the day for VC (3-5). Allen and Tyler Remnant each handed out three assists in the game.

The match was close from the onset, wit the score tied at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter and 5-5 at halftime. The current team opened up an 8-5 advantage to begin the third quarter, bu the alumni stormed back to tie the score at 9-9. Leading by an 11-9 margin entering the final period, the current Pirates could not hold the old guys back, who outscored their younger counterparts 4-2 in the final 10 minutes.

The Pirates will host Cuesta College in their Western State Conference opener on Wednesday Oct. 9 at 2:15 pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center before traveling to the Riverside Tournament on October 11-12.
