MEN'S WATER POLO:  Overcoming a slow start, the Pirate men's water polo team nearly made a great comeback Friday afternoon, falling by an 8-7 score at Cerritos College. VC (1-2) gave up the first four goals of the game, but stiffened the defense, allowing just one goal in the second half to set the stage for the comeback. Tim Allen led the offense with three scores, while Rogelio Coronado, Nick Miranda and Josue Cornejo also netted scores. Goalie Sean McGee had 13 saves to help spur the comeback, as well.

Ventura will travel to the Cuesta Invitational in San Luis Obispo Sept. 20-21 before hosting a VC alumni team on Saturday Sept. 28 at 11:30 am at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
