A day after capturing the state team title, the VC men's tennis team was back at it on the opening day of the 3C2A State Singles and Doubles Championships at The Ojai Tournament. Five VC singles players and three doubles teams were perfect on the day with all moving forward to day two of the draw, including Robinson Pelluault, who came from behind to win his Round of 64 match at Rio Mesa High School.

Pelluault fell behind 6-2 in the first set of his match against an opponent from Riverside City College. He turned things around, however, taking the final two sets, 6-4, 6-3 to move into the Round of 32.

Rafael Matias continued his stellar play in singles with a love-love victory over an opponent from San Diego City while Cody Ray Emery won his opener 6-2, 6-1 against another player from SDCC. Julian Tellez also pitched a shutout in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph against Modesto and Lucas Abreu prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) over an opponent from Irvine Valley.

In doubles play, Tellez and Matias received a bye into the round of 32 while Emery and Abreu won their match 6-0, 6-0 against a team from Folsom Lake College. Edgar Ploquin and Pelluault won their opener in the draw against a duo from Mt. San Antonio, 6-1, 6-4.

Play will continue in singles beginning at 8:00 am on Friday April 26 and doubles play will continue on Friday afternoon.
