Men's tennis Defeats Foothill at North/South Challenge

The VC men's tennis team defeated a short-handed Foothill College team 9-0 Friday on the opening day of the Pfister Cup North/South Challenge in Bakersfield. The Pirates were able to spread the wealth against the Owls with eight different players recording victories, including the doubles team of Cooper Rowlands and Tiebe Verschaeve.

Ventura took command in doubles play winning the No.3 match by default, then sweeping the Nos. 1 and 2 matches. Rowlands and Verschaeve blanked their opponents at no. 2, 6-0 before Edgar Ploquin and Leo Pham-Kobayashi prevailed in the top match 7-5.

VC also received points by default in Nos. 5 and 6 singles play to clinch the match before any other first serves. Julian Tellez won his No. 3 singles contest 6-2, 6-1 and Robinson Pelluault finished on top at no. 4, 6-3, 6-0. Lucas Abreau won in the No. 2 match, 6-4, 7-6 and Rafael Matias triumphed in a three-set thriller at No. 1, 2-6, 6-2, 10-8. 

The Pirates continue play in the North/South Challenge Saturday March 23 with contests against Chabot and Fresno.
