The VC men's tennis team swept past visiting Orange Coast 9-0 Friday at the VC Tennis Center. After close doubles matches, the Pirates swept six singles contests by a combined score of 72-20. Cody Ray Emery captured his No. 1 match love and one while Rafael Matias and Julian Tellez each prevailed one and one.
Lucas Abreau and Leo Pham-Kobayashi started the day with an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles before Emery and Matias won in the No. 1 slot, 8-6. Tellez and Edgar Ploquin outlasted their opponents in No. 3 doubles, 9-7, to give Ventura the 3-0 advantage headed to singles play.
Emery, Matias and Tellez all raced to singles wins in the Nos. 1, 2 and 4 slots, respectively to clinch the victory for VC. Robinson Pelluault won in No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-0 and Ploquin captured the No. 6 match, 6-2, 6-3 before Abreau closed out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 victory in No. 3 singles.
The Pirates continue Western State Conference play on Wednesday March 20 at Santa Barbara.
