VC Routs Bakersfield to Remain Unbeaten in WSC

The VC men's tennis team completed the first round of Western State Conference play with an 8-1 victory at Bakersfield Tuesday afternoon. Rafael Matias, Lucas Abreau, Julian Tellez and Edgar Ploquin all claimed two-point days for the Pirates (7-4, 3-0) with wins in singles and doubles play.

Cody Ray Emery and Matias claimed the Pirates' first point of the day with a dominant 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Tellez and Ploquin followed with an 8-1 win at No. 3 before Abreau and Leo Pham-Kobayashi made it 3-0 for VC with an 8-4 win at no. 2 doubles.

Robinson Pelluault won his No. 5 singles match one and love and Tellez earned his second point of the day and clinched the Ventura win with a love and one triumph in No. 4 singles. Matias claimed the No. 2 contest 6-1, 6-1 and Abreau triumphed in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 7-5 and Ploquin won in the No. 6 slot, 7-5, 6-2. Emery dropped a hard fought 6-3, 1-6, 12-10 decision in No. 1 singles preventing the Pirate sweep.

VC next travels to Glendale for a big WSC match on Thursday March 7.
