Men's Tennis Battles NCAA Div. I Hawaii

Pirate freshman Rafael Matias earned VC's lone point with a win at No. 2 singles Wednesday against NCAA Division I for Hawaii at the VC Tennis Center. Ventura fell to the Warriors 6-1.

The VC men's tennis team took a big step up on Wednesday hosting the University of Hawaii at the VC Tennis Center. The Pirates fell to the Warriors 7-0 but were very competitive against the NCAA Division I program. Rafael Matias and Cody Ray Emery both went to three sets in their singles matches before falling.

Ventura (4-3) dropped the first point of the match falling in all three doubles contests. Thomas Lindner and Edgar Ploquin came closest to their opponents in the No. 3 slot, falling 6-3.

In singles, Matias lost a hard fought match at No. 2. He lost the first set 6-3 before taking the second in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6). Despite the comeback, Hawaii captured the point with a 6-3 triumph in the deciding set.

Cody Ray Emery was also very competitive taking the first set at no. 1, 6-3, Hawaii came back to take the final two sets, however, 6-4, 6-3, to capture the point.

Robinson Pelluault also played well despite his 6-3, 6-3 setback at No. 5 singles.

Ventura returns to the court on Friday Feb. 23 in their Western State COnference opener against Santa Barbara. Play is set to begin at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
