The VC men's tennis team had another undefeated run come to an end Saturday with a 6-1 setback Saturday at College of the Desert in the Southern California Regional Final. Jinsei Tajima and Philemon Jabin won their No. 1 doubles match for the lone point for VC (15-1) as their team season comes to an end in Palm Desert for the second straight year.
Ventura's No. 2 dubles duo of Santino Serralonga and Valentino Oggero dropped a hard-fought 8-5 decision in their match before the No. 3 team of Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo and Lucas Abreau fell by an identical score. Tajima and Jabin went to a tiebreaker in their No. 1 contest to salvage the 9-8 victory, leaving VC down 2-1 heading to singles play.
Desert was strong on the bottom of the line-up as they captured the No. 4 match-up love and one before winning at No. 5, 6-2, 6-4. The Roadrunners clinched victory with simultaneous triumphs at Nos. 3 and 6 by counts of 7-6, 6-1 and 6-2, 7-6, respectively.
While COD will now prepare for the state team finals, the Pirates will continue at the CCCAA State Doubles and Singles Championships held at The Ojai Tournament beginning Thursday April 27 at various courts in the Ventura-Ojai area.
