The Ventura College men's tennis team blanked Foothill 9-0 Friday on the first day of the North South Challenge at Seven Oaks Country Club in Bakersfield. Valentino Oggero and Julian Tellez each posted love, love victories in singles play while Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo and Lucas Abreau had an 8-0 win in doubles play for the Pirates (9-0, 5-0).
Gorgonio Criscuolo and Abreau claimed the first point of the match with their victory in No. 3 doubles, Santino Serralonga and Oggero followed with an 8-5 win in the No. 2 slot and Jinsei Tajima and Philemon Jabin claimed the No. 1 doubles contest 8-5.
Tajima won his No. 1 singles match when his opponent was retired with an injury and Tellez clinched the VC win with his shutout in No. 6 singles. Oggero blanked his opponent in the no. 5 singles slot before Abreau won in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Jabin claimed the No. 3 singles match-up 6-3, 6-3 and Serralonga wrapped up the shutout with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph in No. 2 singles.
Ventura will continue the North/South Challenge in Bakersfield on Saturday March 18 taking on Chabot at 10:00 am and American River at 2:00 pm.
