The Pirates' men's tennis team swept singles play and won two of three doubles matches Tuesday in their 8-1 win over Riverside at the VC Tennis Center. Jinsei Tajima, Philemon Jabin and Lucas Abreau were all double winners for Ventura (5-0, 2-0), claiming points in both singles and doubles play.
Tajima and Jabin started the day off with an 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles. Eduardo Gorgonio Criscuolo and Abreau followed with an 8-4 triumph in the No. 3 doubles slot. RCC claimed the No. 2 doubles match over Santino Serralonga and Valentino Oggero, 8-6.
The Pirates continued their strong play, sweeping the singles competition. Serralonga easily won in No. 2 singles, one and one while Jabin prevailed in the No. 3 match by the same score. Julian Tellez won his No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-4 before Oggero won the No. 5 match, 6-2, 6-0. Abreau came from behind in No. 4 singles, taking the match 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 and Tajima won a tiebreaker in the first set to win 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in No. 1 singles.
The Pirates will travel to Glendale for a Western State COnference match on Thursday Feb. 16.
