The No. 2-seeded Ventura College men's tennis team easily disposed of No. 8 El Camino Tuesday in the SoCal Regional Quarterfinals at the VC Tennis Center, 5-0. Jinsei Tajima and Yuya Koide each finished their singles matches after the Pirates (17-0) swept doubles play to clinch the win for VC.
Koide and Ryan Lam got the day started right with an 8-0 win in No 2 doubles. Philemon Jabin and Tajima followed with an 8-1 triumph in the No. 3 slot before Brodie Sodersten and Sam Ashbrook prevailed in No. 1 doubles, 8-3.
Tajima continued the Pirates' roll with a win in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0 before Koide clinched the Ventura win with a one and love victory in No. 3 singles. The Pirates were also leading in the four other singles matches which were not completed when VC secured their advancement.
The VC men have some business to finish on Friday April 8 in the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Championships at the VC Tennis Center before they will host No. 4 San Diego City in the regional semifinals on Tuesday April 12 at 2:00 pm.
