The VC men's tennis team nearly shut out Orange Coast Tuesday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center, allowing OCC to win just two games the entire match in Ventura's final regular season contest. After winning three doubles matches 8-0, the VC Pirates posted five love and love wins in singles play and won the other two and love as they swept the OCC Pirates to complete an undefeated regular season.
Jinsei Tajima and Philemon Jabin won their No. 3 doubles match 8-0 before Yuya Koide and Ryan Lam, and Brodie Sodersten and Sam Ashbrook did the same in Nos. 2 and 1 doubles, respectively.
Building on their "lovely" lead, Ventura proceeded to win five singles matches without yielding a single game to OCC. Koide won in No. 2 singles, Ashbrook in No. 3, Tajima in No. 4, Santino Serralonga in No 5 and Lam in No. 6, all by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Jabin provide the final victory for the sweep, "only" winning by a 6-2, 6-0 margin.
Ventura (16-0, 6-0) will now prepare for the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Tournament hosted at VC beginning Thursday March 31. THeir first round Southern California regional playoff match will be on Tuesday April 5.
