If they are not careful, this could become a habit. The VC men's tennis team posted another sweeping victory Tuesday, shutting out Santa Barbara 9-0 at the VC Tennis Center. The undefeated Pirates (10-0, 4-0) have swept six of their wins this season and clinched at least a share of the Western State Conference title with the triumph on Tuesday. Philemon Jabin headlines the day with a win in No. 3 doubles with Jinsei Tajima, and another victory in No. 1 singles.
Jabin and Tajima got the day started right with an 8-1 win in their No. 3 doubles match. Yuya Koide and Ryan Lam followed with an 8-5 victory in the No. 2 slot and Brodie Sodersten and Sam Ashbrook outlasted their opponents in No. 1 doubles, 8-7.
Ashbrook continued the rout with a love and one victory in No. 7 singles, followed by Santino Serralonga's 6-52, 6-0 win in the No. 5 slot. Sodersten won his No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-1 and Koide prevailed in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Jabin followed with another one and two triumph in No.1 singles and Lam completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-sets win in No. 6 singles.
Ventura will attempt to clinch the program's 21st conference title outright on Thursday March 3 as they travel to take on Glendale.
