VC Bests NCAA Div. III Cal Lutheran, Remains Undefeated

VC freshman Ryan Lam paired with Yuya Koide to win in No. 2 doubles as the Pirates' men's tennis team defeated NCAA Div. III Cal Lutheran, 8-1 Sunday in Thousand Oaks.

The Ventura College men's tennis team remained undefeated Sunday, with an 8-1 triumph over NCAA Div. III Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. Brodie Sodersten, Sam Ashbrook, Yuya Koide and Jinsei Tajima all won in singles and doubles to lead the way for the Pirates (8-0, 3-0).

Ventura swept through the doubles competition to open the match. Sodersten and Ashbrook won their No. 1 doubles contest 8-2 while Koide and Ryan Lam prevailed in the No. 2 slot, 8-5. Philemon Jabin and Tajima won their No. 3 doubles match 8-5, as well.

In singles, Ashbrook got things started with a love and one victory in the No. 4 slot and Santino Serralonga won his No. 6 singles match one and love. Sodersten had a tough time in the first set as he prevailed 7-5, 6-1 in No. 2 singles and Koide went to a tiebreaker in the first set before posting a 7-6, 6-1 victory in the No. 3 position. Tajima won the Pirates' eighth point with a come-from-behind 4-6, 7-6 (10-7) triumph in No. 5 singles.

Ventura begins the second rotation of Western State COnference play on Tuesday March 1 hosting Santa Barbara City College.
