The Ventura College men's tennis team posted its fifth sweep in seven matches blanking Saddleback 9-0 Friday in Mission Viejo. Yuya Koide, Sam Ashbrook, Jinsei Tajima and Santino Serralonga all recorded love and love victories in singles play against the Bobcats.
Ventura (7-0, 3-0) started off the day with three easy wins in doubles play. Brodie Sodersten and Ashbrook won in the no. 1 slot 8-3 while Koide and Ryan Lam prevailed in No. 2 doubles, 8-2. Serralonga and Regnar Madarang won in No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
In singles play, Sodersten went to the super tiebreaker in his 5-7, 6-1 (10-5) victory at No. 1, and the Pirates won easily in the other five slots. Koide (No. 2), Ashbrook (No. 3), Tajima (No. 4) and Serralonga (No. 5) all won their singles matches without losing a game and Lam won in the no. 6 slot, 6-0, 6-1.
Ventura next travels to NCAA Division III Cal Lutheran on Sunday Feb. 27 before hosting Santa Barbara on Tuesday March 1.
