Men's Tennis remains Perfect at Riverside

The VC men's tennis team remained perfect on the season with their fourth sweep in five matches, defeating Riverside City College 9-0 Thursday. Ryan Lam teamed with Yuya Koide in No. 2 doubles for an 8-2 win, then won in No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-0 to lead the victory parade for Ventura (5-0, 2-0).

VC swept the doubles matches to take control early. Koide and Lam won 8-2 at No. 2 and Philemon Jabin and Jinsei Tajima claimed their No. 3 doubles match 8-3. Brodie Sodersten and Sam Ashbrook had a dogfight in the No. 1 slot, claiming a 9-8 win.

In singles, Ashbrook won his No. 4 match, one and love, while Lam won in No. 6, two and love. Sodersten posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph in No. 2 singles and Tajima prevailed at No. 5, 6-1, 6-2. Koide won in the No. 3 slot, 6-1, 6-3, while Jabin outlasted his opponent in the top draw, 6-3, 4-6 (10-5).

The Pirates resume Western State Conference play on Tuesday Feb. 24 at Bakersfield.
