The VC men's tennis team made its 2022 home debut Thursday, making quick work of the visiting Glendale College Vaqueros, winning 9-0. The Pirates dropped a total of seven games in the entire match in moving to 2-0 on the young season. Philemon Jabin, Brodie Sodersten, Yuya Koide and Sam Ashbrook were all double-winners for Ventura.
The Pirates dropped three games in doubles play, all in the No. 1 match with Sodersten and Ashbrook winning 8-3. Koide and Ryan Lam, and Jabin and Jinsei Tajima each won 8-0 in Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.
In singles, Sodersten (No. 2), Santino Serralonga (No. 4) and Ashbrook (No. 6) all swept their opponents love and love. Meanwhile, Jabin (No. 1) and Koide (No. 3) each won their singles contests 6-0, 6-1. Regnar Madarang prevailed in his No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-2.
The Pirates next will host Mt. San Antonio on Saturday Feb. 5. The matches are scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
