2020 Men's Tennis Review

2020 Men's Tennis Review

It is a season whose end will forever be unwritten. The Ventura College men's tennis team was the lone undefeated squad remaining in the state in 2020 when the campaign came to an abrupt end on March 12 due to the coronavirus, and their journey will always be unfinished. But despite that, the 2020 Pirates achieved many great things worthy of recognition and review.

The Pirates ended the season with an 8-0 record, 5-0 in the Western State Conference. They had clinched the program's 21st conference title, but unfortunately that will not make the banner with the premature end to the season. Ventura was ranked No. 3 in the final Oracle/ITA JUCO CCCAA Men's Team Rankings issued by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Team Most Valuable Player Charles De La Laurencie led four singles players who each posted at least six wins with no losses on the year. He went 8-0 in singles play, including a 2-0 mark at the No. 1 slot and 5-0 at No. 2. Ryan Lam was 8-0 primarily filling the No. 3 slot while Alexandre Campolina was 6-0 on the year, mainly at No. 4 singles. Cody Castro was also 8-0 on the season in singles, splitting his time between the Nos. 5 and 6 spot in the line-up. VC's No. 1 player Antonio Rosales was 4-2 on the season.

In doubles play, De La Laurencie and partner Yuya Koide went 7-1 at the No. 2 slot. Rosales and Castro were a formidable duo in No. 1 doubles with a mark of 5-3 while Campolina and Leo Noni were 4-0 at No. 3.

Rosales led the Pirates in the classroom earning Team Scholar Athlete honors.
