Pirates' Rosales Signs with Biola University

Ventura College men's tennis sophomore Antonio Rosales has signed a letter of intent to transfer to Biola University on a scholarship in the fall. Rosales, who is from Quito, Ecuador, has been VC's No. 1 player in singles and doubles for the past two seasons. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Pirates' 2020 campaign was cut short, and all players' year of eligibility was restored by the CCCAA. Rosales could have three years remaining to play with the Eagles, an NCAA Division II school competing in the PacWest Conference.

Rosales played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Pirates for two seasons. He advanced to the Western State Conference finals in singles a year ago, earning second team all Conference honors. He teamed up with Kyle Spiegelman in doubles, taking the WSC crown as the first-team ALL-WSC doubles pair.  At The Ojai, Rosales advanced to the round of 32 in singles, posting a record of 1-1 after a first round bye. In doubles, he and Spiegelman won their first three matches of the draw before falling in the state quarterfinals. He helped lead VC to a 12-5 dual match record as a freshman, 5-2 in WSC play. The Pirates also earned the CCCAA State Scholar Team Award in 2019.

This season, Rosales again held the No. 1 slots in singles and doubles, the latter with Cody Castro. Rosales was 4-2 in singles play and 5-3 in doubles action as the Pirates were Southern California's lone undefeated team at 8-0 when play was suspended on March 13 and subsequently canceled a week later. Ventura, along with College of the Desert, Foothill and American River were all thought to be state title contenders.
