Pirate Tennis Remains Undefeated With WSC Victory

VC freshman Cody Castro was a double winner at Santa Barbara Tuesday, winning his No. 6 singles match 6-2, 6-4, and teaming up with Antonio Rosales to capture No. 1 doubles, 8-4.

The Pirates' men's tennis team remained undefeated on the year with a resounding 8-1 victory over Santa Barbara City College Tuesday in Santa Barbara. Antonio Rosales led the Pirates (6-0, 4-0) with a two and love win in No. 1 singles after he paired with Cody Castro for an 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles. Castro, Leo Noni and Alexandre Campolina were also double-winners on the day for Ventura.

VC led 2-1 following doubles play with Rosales and Castro winning No. 1 and Campolina and Noni capturing No. 3 by identical 8-4 scores. 

In singles play, Rosales led a Pirate sweep with a win at No. 1, 6-2, 6-0, and Charles De La Laurencie won his No. 2 match 6-1, 6-2. Noni prevailed at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3 while Ryan Lam was victorious at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4. Campolina won his No. 5 singles match 6-4, 6-3 and Castro triumphed at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

With the victory, the Pirates captured at least a share of the Western State Conference title, the 21st in program history.

Ventura continues WSC play on Thursday March 5 at home against Glendale. The match begins at 2:00 pm with doubles play at the VC Tennis Center.
