Men's Tennis Advances at Ojai

VC freshman Charles De La Laurencie advanced to the round of 32 Thursday at the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai Tournament.

The VC men's tennis team had a solid showing in the opening rounds of the CCCAA State Singles and Doubles Championships hosted by The Ojai Tournament. Antonio Rosales, Charles De La Laurencie and Kyle Spiegelman all moved into the round of 32 in singles while the doubles pair of Rosales and Spiegelman also moved into the top-32.

Rosales, the No. 10 seed, had a first round bye before ouuting an opponent from Diablo Valley 6-0, 6-1. De La Laurencie also had the first round off before upsetting the No. 12-seed from American River, 6-1, 6-2. Spiegelman, meanwhile, defeated the No. 14 seed from Diablo Valley, 6-1, 6-3, after a first round bye.

In doubles play, No. 3-seeded Rosales and Spiegelman were the only pair from VC to move to the round of 32. They did so by virtue of a opening round bye and a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over a team from Victor Valley.

Thiago Batista and Alexandre Campolina too to the court for the final time this season following a first round bye, then a loss to Irvine Valley, 7-5, 6-2.

Jacob Boucher and Eric Rodriguez also had a first round bye before falling in the round of 64 to a team from San Diego Mesa College.

Play in The Ojai Tournament continues on Friday April 26.
