Ventura Closes Regular Season With Victory

The Ventura College men's tennis team closed the regular season with an 8-1 victory over Grossmont Friday afternoon at the VC Tennis Center. Thiago Batista won in No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Pirates (13-4, 6-2). VC won a pair of doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead on the Griffins before sweeping through singles play.

Batista and Alexandre Campolina recorded the first point of the day for Ventura with an 8-1 win in No. 2 doubles. Antonio Rosales and Kyle Spiegelman followed soon thereafter with an 8-1 triumph in No. 1 doubles.

In singles, Campolina made quick work of his opponent in the No. 4 slot, winning 6-1, 6-2 before Spiegelman recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory i at No. 3. Batista then closed out his no. 5 match to clinch the victory for the Pirates. Charles De La Laurencie then won in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2 followed by Rosales at no. 1, 6-0, 6-4, and James Moulton at no. 6, 6-0, 4-6, 11-9.

The Pirates return to the court at the VC Tennis Center Friday and Saturday April 5 and 6 for the Western State Conference singles and doubles championships.
